BASI Pilates: Shoulder Mechanics Workshop

Monday, 21st October 2019
10:30am - 1.30pm (3 hours)
Upside Motion Orchard
with BASI Master Trainer Efi Mavrogianni
Workshop Fee: USD 125.00

This workshop will focus on correct mechanics of the shoulder complex particularly relating to the Pilates repertoire. Immaculate control and mechanics of the shoulder is essential in everyday activities and when practicing Pilates, especially when performing the higher level work. Shoulder "issues" are certainly one of the most frequently encountered dysfunctions for everyone.

More specifically, during the lecture part, there will be a review of the basic musculoskeletal anatomy of the Shoulder Complex but the focus will be to analyse Shoulder Mechanics, its importance and application to everyday life and Pilates. It's beneficial for Upsiders who are office workers, or do swimming, tennis, football, and weight lifting and Pilates instructors who wish to deepen their knowledge of Shoulder mechanics.

During the repertoire part, there will be a practical explanation of Scapulohumeral Rhythm, selected Pilates repertoire (mat and equipment), essential for improving correct Shoulder Mechanics and more advanced work to apply our new skills.

About Efi Mavrogianni
Efi has expressed herself through movement in ballet and began tennis lessons at the early age of five. She was a competitive tennis player for 11 years. Efi had been accepted to the University of Iraklion, Crete to study Physics and Mathematics when she was diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis. She immediately became aware of the integrated nature of the body and began researching natural ways of healing and postural therapies to restore functional movement in her own body.
Efi discovered that Pilates strengthens the whole body and improves posture, while not compromising the safety of the spine. She attended her first Mentor Program in May 2012, where she met Rael Isacowitz, and got inspired by his passion and mastery. She was encouraged to join the BASI Faculty.

She has attended specialization courses for various Injuries and Pathologies, with a special interest in the spine. Also, courses for specific populations, such as Enhancing Athletic Performance, Pre and Post Natal Certification Course, Pilates for the Mature Client, Pilates for Autoimmune Diseases (such as Multiple Sclerosis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Lupus), Chronic Pain Syndrome, Breast Cancer Recovery, Osteopenia/Osteoporosis.
